Plot 8
On the 14th of May 2025, the Vegan Land Movement CIC entered an auction and WON an 8th area of dairy grazing land, thanks to the incredible support of donors such as yourselves.
This area of land is now in the safe hands of the VLM and will become a protected haven for countless wildlife species, including persecuted badger families whose setts are nearby.
There is a lot of shooting in this area and this 8th plot will be a safe area where shooting and culling is prohibited. All shooting, hunting and ‘sporting’ rights are sold with the land and the VLM never buys land without these as part of the sale.

There are several badger setts very near this plot and the badgers can now safely use this land for foraging without fear of being hunted and shot. Below are some photos taken by VLM volunteers who are part of the local badger sab group. They have visited this field a few times and have catalogued the nearby badger setts to monitor and oversee them.
Thank you to all who made this happen. You have saved another area of land – not only providing a safe haven for the nearby badger families but also countless other struggling native species.
The other great bit of news about Plot 8 is that it is not far from Plot 2.
The more areas of land that the VLM can remove from animal agriculture (and ideally join several areas together), the more chance struggling wildlife will have to survive and ultimately flourish. Imagine joining all of these fields together to create hundreds of acres of wildlife sanctuary, protected by vegan principles in perpetuity!
As you can see, Plot 2 and Plot 8 are entirely surrounded by monoculture grassland with low biodiversity. No wonder wildlife species are facing extinction!
Plot 8 tree planting 27th of March 2026
20 volunteers gathered to walk the half mile to plot 8, laden with spades, food and shelter to plant the first 500 carefully selected trees to create a rare future wet woodland habitat.
On the 27th of March 2026, the VLM and volunteers planted another future mixed wet woodland habitat on 4 acres removed from dairy farming in 2025. This plot will now be a safe haven for species to flourish and find sanctuary, where no animals can be exploited, farmed or shot.
We found out that this plot was also previously used by hunters to drive out foxes, and local sabs had prevented this from happening on this plot the year before. One of these sabs joined us for tree planting and commented that the planting event was such a positive outcome. The gate to plot 4 is now padlocked so that hunters cannot access it. The VLM secures all ‘hunting and sporting rights’ with each plot so they would also be breaking the law if they were seen accessing it.
This weekend we also planted more wet woodland trees on Plot 4, removed from dairy farming in 2022 and upgraded the smaller protective tree tubes with larger ones. This is to protect previously planted trees which had outgrown their tubes
In total, over 950 trees were planted during the weekend – 500 on plot 8 and 400 on plot 4.
This time, we had trees donated from eForests, Re-imagining the Levels, as well as some salvaged local trees and 150 willow withie sticks. Thank you to all those who donated trees.
If you would like to read about rare wet woodlands, you can do so here. Sadly, most ancient wet woodlands have been lost and many have been drained and converted to animal grazing. Floodplain wet woodlands have now almost completely vanished due to animal farming. The VLM plans to reverse this by removing these grazing plots from animal farming for good and planting future wet woodlands there instead.

At this tree planting on plot 8 and plot 4 we made great use of hundreds of recycled tubes, salvaged, and removed from old roadside planting schemes by a dedicated group of local volunteers.
“The story of how we recycled thousands of tree covers…
It was brought to our attention that there were trees in an industrial area that were dying because the tree covers were still in place and were strangulating the new grown trees. Some had already rotted behind the plastic and had fallen over, the tubes lying around in the copse. You have probably seen this in many locations and it makes you feel you want to ‘rescue’ the trees and liberate them from their restricting covers.”
We all see these tubes but nobody seems to remove them once the trees are grown. An amazing team have spent days removing these tubes and processing them to be used again in an ingenious way, as you can see in the demonstration pictures below. We hope that this technique will inspire others to do the same. When the VLM trees become established we will re-use and recycle all of these tubes again, along with all other tubes donated from new. The VLM will never leave plastic in the habitats we create.
